Long Lasting Wedding Makeup

Long lasting wedding makeup is all about application & product choice.

If you’re planning a summer wedding and hoping for a gorgeous weather with the sun shining all day – you might be just a tad concerned about achieving a beautiful long lasting wedding makeup.

Your wedding day is undoubtedly one of the most special days of your life, and you want to look and feel your absolute best from the ceremony to the last dance. One of the key elements to achieving this is ensuring your makeup stays fresh and flawless throughout the day and night. Long-lasting wedding makeup is essential for brides who want to maintain that beautiful bridal glow from the “I do’s” to the final farewell. Here are some of my expert tips to ensure your makeup lasts all day:

For lots of my brides, the goal is to achieve a radiant, natural look that accentuates their features without appearing overly done. Whereas others are looking for a complete transformation. Whatever your taste may be – everyone wants to look their very best on their wedding day. And they want their wedding makeup to be long lasting! That’s where I come in.

  • Prep Your Canvas: Just like a painter prepares their canvas before starting a masterpiece, it’s essential to prep your skin before applying any makeup. Start with a clean, moisturised face to provide a smooth base for your makeup. If you have dry skin I recommend using a hydrating primer specifically designed to prolong the wear of your makeup. I like using Rose Dew by Cosmetic’s a la carte, particularly on my mature brides, but also on anyone with dry skin. However, if you will get better results if you try something like Laura Mercier Canvas Blurring Primer. If you have a problem with open pores then you cant go wrong with Porefessional by Benefit. This step will help your foundation go on more evenly and stay put throughout the day.
  • Choose Long-Lasting Formulas: When selecting products for your bridal makeup look, opt for long-lasting formulas that are designed to withstand tears, sweat, and hours of wear. Look for waterproof or water-resistant options for products like foundation, concealer, and mascara. These formulas are less likely to smudge or fade, ensuring your makeup stays intact from the “I do’s” to the last dance. One of my favourite all time long lasting mascaras is Lash Power by Clinique. It really won’t budge, even on the hottest of days, trust me!

Long lasting wedding makeup on your big day

  • Set with Powder: For truly long lasting wedding makeup after applying your foundation and concealer, set your makeup with a translucent setting powder. This step helps to lock in your makeup and prevent it from budging throughout the day. Focus on areas prone to shine, such as the T-zone, to keep oil at bay and maintain a matte finish. You can apply added highlighter in strategic places to give a dewy glow to your makeup. So you’ll still look dewy but not sweaty. . . it’s a fine line!!
  • Invest in Quality Products: Your wedding day is not the time to skimp on quality. Invest in high-quality makeup products that are known for their long-lasting performance. Your makeup artist can recommend products that are suitable for your skin type and will help your makeup withstand the test of time.
  • Use Setting Spray: Once your makeup is complete, finish with a spritz of setting spray to lock everything in place. Setting spray creates a protective barrier over your makeup, helping it to stay fresh and vibrant for hours on end. Choose a setting spray specifically formulated for long-lasting wear for maximum effectiveness. My all time favourite for extra long lasting makeup is this product by Kryolan. Nothing gets past this!

Long Lasting makeup – don’t touch!

  • Avoid Excessive Touching: Throughout the day, try to avoid touching your face as much as possible. Every time you touch your face, you transfer oils and bacteria onto your skin, which can break down your makeup and cause it to fade or smudge. Instead, use blotting papers to absorb any excess oil without disturbing your makeup. Using blotting papers instead of powder is a great way of getting rid of shine. And what’s more you’ll avoid a build up of powder – which is never a good look.
  • Schedule Touch-Up Times: Even with the most long-lasting makeup, a little touch-up here and there may be necessary, especially if you’re having a particularly long day or if you’re getting married in hot or humid weather. Coordinate with your makeup artist to schedule touch-up times throughout the day to ensure your makeup stays looking fresh and beautiful.
  • Stay Hydrated and Eat Well: Your skincare routine leading up to your wedding is just as important as your makeup routine on the day itself. Drink plenty of water, eat a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables, and get plenty of rest to ensure your skin is in its best condition for your wedding day. Well-hydrated and nourished skin will hold makeup better and look more radiant.

To conclude, achieving long lasting wedding makeup requires careful preparation, the right products, and a few expert techniques. By following these tips and working closely with your makeup artist, you can ensure that your makeup stays flawless and beautiful from the moment you say “I do” to the last dance of the night. So relax, enjoy your special day, and let your makeup be the last thing on your mind as you celebrate the beginning of your happily ever after.
